 Contract Support Staff Position

The Nipissing Community Legal Clinic is located in North Bay and serves the district of Nipissing.  We provide legal services in the areas of housing and income maintenance.  The clinic is seeking a full-time support staff/legal assistant.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Post-secondary diploma
• Amazing customer service skills and professionalism
• Legal assistant and administrative assistant experience
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and respond to tight deadlines with careful attention to detail
• Commitment to the social justice work of the legal clinic, e.g. delivering high quality legal services to low income individuals and groups
• Ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with colleagues
• Understanding of community based legal services
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high volume environment with clients who may be in distress
• French language an asset

Responsibilities:

• Reception duties including answering and routing calls, making initial client contact, creating intakes, providing appropriate referrals, providing basic information regarding clinic services
• Provide general administrative support to lawyers and caseworkers including faxing, photocopying, filling, responding to telephone calls, correspondence, scheduling meetings;
• Recording details of client intakes and referrals in the client management system.

Salary Range:  $40,000 – 55,000 depending on experience.

Duration:  3 months leave contract, starting April 15 with a possibility of extension.
