Are you 16 or 17 and looking to gain paid work experience, explore a different part of Canada, and improve your second official language – all in one summer?
The YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange (SWSE) is a unique, six-week national exchange program for youth aged 16–17. Participants are matched with another student from a different region of Canada (e.g., English-speaking youth from the GTA will be paired with a French-speaking youth from Québec), and each student is hosted by the other’s family for the duration of the program.
What You’ll Gain:
-
Full-time paid summer job in the non-profit sector (earning minimum wage)
-
Cultural immersion and improved French or English language skills
-
Independence and confidence through real-world work and travel
-
Lifelong friendships and community engagement through fun group activities led by local YMCA Coordinators
We also look for:
-
Host Families: Families of participants are required to host a participant for the 6 weeks.
- Alternative Hosts: In the case that your family is unable to host a participant, we encourage youth to search for an alternative host. This can be another family, friend or trusted adult(s) over the age of 18.
* Only currently registered YES clients can apply online.
