    citynews_logoYES CEO was interviewed by CityNews Ginella Massa regarding employment equity after a move in New York to make unlawful certain past income questions to ensure fair pay to all and help close the gender compensation gap.  Lang agreed and stated that that any move to ensure fair pay, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion or any other profiling, was a good thing.  Compensation should be based on ability, experience, potential, and work ethic and attitude and not outside factors that may be discriminatory.

    YES held a Queen’s Park event on April 27th with strong representation form all parties and many MPPs attending.  President & CEO Tim Lang introduced the Minister of Advanced Education and Training and Skills Development, The Honourable Deb Matthews, followed by Progressive Conservative John Yakabuski and NDPs Peggy Sattler.  All three co-hosts reiterated the importance of YES and the services it provides.  In attendance were also front line staff and YES youth, whom the MPPs greatly enjoyed speaking to.

    Youth Employment Services YES is excited to announce the release of a new workshop curriculum package that has been developed to help Employment Specialists better support youth living with mental health issues seek and maintain employment!!

    This package provides resources and tools for Employment Specialists who are looking to expand their programming and adapt their practices to better serve youth with mental health issues – covering topics such as: basic mental health, how to best adapt employment service practices to fit the needs of youth living with mental illness, and how to prepare youth living with mental health issues for new employment – an often challenging period of transitions and lifestyle changes for them.

    Thank you again to all those who attended the inaugural Compass: Finding Direction through Mentorship event, because of your support the day was a huge success.

    50 YES youth were given the opportunity to network and seek advice from 50 leaders from the community including YES funders, board members and honoured guests. The event included a keynote from Orlando Bowen, inspiring words from MPP Han Dong, a Panel including: Madelaine Banks of HSBC, Marissa Wu of Ten Thousand Coffees, Leyland Adams young entrepreneur and former YES client and Orlando Bowen.

    Three outstanding youth were also recognized and received Youth Employment Champion Awards for their achievements in employment, empowerment and entrepreneurship.
